Abby Made a Basketball Memory!

Last night I watched my 17year old niece(doodles) make herself a basketball memory! Any body that's ever played any kind of sports will know what I mean. That one time when you had your very best game, and that is a memory you never forget and you will replay over and over again in your mind. Even after over 50 years I can still remember the last baseball game of my senior year when I went 4 for 4 and raised my average to .400.

Abby is only 5'5 1/2 inches tall but she sure has a big heart! I go back over 7 years ago my sister asked me to help Abby develop her basketball game and I worked with her off and on over that time. She has an amazing gift of being able to use her left hand to dribble well as her right hand. But when it came to shooting that gift almost seemed like a curse.

In order to help her to use the left hand more as guide I would have her practice shooting with a sock on her left hand, needless to say this didn't go over well but at her age I wanted to start building her shot the right way. She got to the point she would hide her sock or forget to bring it to practice. We had a lot of laughs together and when we played horse she had all kind of goofy shots. Thus the nickname doodles!

It has not been easy for Abby, she has had chronic ear infections, with tubes in her ears since birth, and she even has had speech therapy because she couldn't hear well enough to understand words. But enough of this, lets talk about her game.(Too bad I don't have a audio book or book on tape replay)

Final game of the season playing for the league championship, she scores 17 points- 6 for 7 from the floor, couple of 3's, 3 for 3 at the foul line and 5 rebounds and her team won!  Now is that a Memory?
